Today as I drove past a dairy farm I saw a cow standing close to a trailer in the paddock. As I got closer I saw that a calf sat in the trailer, as a man closed the door. We had driven past before I could see more, but I know that the calf was being taken away from their mum. How could anyone do such a thing? How could you take a new born away from his mum? How could you take a mother’s baby away from her? How could you? Just imagine for a second what it’d be like to be in this mothers position, can you imagine how you would feel having your child, whom you carried inside you for nine long months, stolen away from you? Mother cows in the dairy industry cry out for days on end for their missing baby. Next year they will be forced to do it all again until they’re sent to the slaughterhouse. The poor baby, terrified and hungry, will be taken away, and will never again experience their mothers love. Most likely they’ll be put on a truck and delivered to a slaughterhouse. Did you know that often these days-old calves will suckle on the fingers of the slaughterhouse workers, seeking comfort? Instead these gentle, innocent babies are stabbed in the throat and bled to death. This happens to two million bobby calves every year in NZ. All because people want to drink their mother’s milk. Please, please, please stop supporting this horrific industry. Whether its for the poor broken hearted mother cows or the scared, innocent bobby calves, please ditch dairy.
