Just because the heat doesn’t kill them, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t make farmed animals suffer. I think many of us also assume that if farmed animals needed shade they would be given it, that they must not mind the heat like we do. However this is untrue, and appears to merely be another lie we tell ourselves to ease our conscience in order to continue eating animal products guilt-free. It’s time we confront the fact that farmed animals don’t just suffer as much as we would if we were to be in their position, they actually suffer more.
The Animal Justice Party of Aotearoa wants to see the Animal Welfare Act, which states animals must be provided with shade, enforced properly so that farmed animals are all given shade from the summer sun. But ultimately, the issue is that we are farming animals at all. Their rights will never truly be respected until the farms are emptied. Take this as one more reason you should say that’s it, what’s wrong is wrong, and remove your support from these industries by embracing veganism and switching to a fully plant based diet. 💚
